Want More Google Love? Blogging is The Way to Go

I know it’s hard to believe, but for a long time I thought Google didn’t like blogs.

Some years ago, I read on an Internet marketing site — I can’t remember its address — that blogs were falling out of favour from Google and wouldn’t rank well, if at all. That piece of (mis)information had been written by a man who looked like an authority in site traffic, so I just assumed he was right and, unfortunately, I decided to ignore blogging. How silly I was.

Misinformation on blogging is still spread on a regular basis

Nowadays, just when you’d think blogs have gone mainstream, you’ll still stumble upon articles meant to classify blogging as a major waste of time. Their authors will tell you to avoid blogs if you want to succeed on the Internet. What’s worse: most of this (bad) advice is directed towards business owners.

No matter if you own a brick-and-mortar business and want to improve your webpresence, or if you’re solely dedicated to making money online: you must understand that blogs are important tools. They are good for your business. Do not believe those who say otherwise. But don’t believe those who claim blogging to be a magical solution either. Both groups are tendentious, to say the least.

What Google traffic has to do with blogging?

While I can’t guarantee that blogs will fix all your problems and bring you rivers of money, I can say for sure that Google does like blogs. Let’s see why:

  • Blogs require fresh posts; this is what blog readers expect to find. And Google loves fresh content. A blog could “force” you to keep on producing new content. A static website might not keep you as motivated.
  • In order to keep your blog updated, you will have to write posts regularly. More posts means more pages for Google to index. With more pages on Google index, you’ll increase your chances of being found by Google users — who are the majority of websurfers.
  • Some blogging platforms, such as WordPress, are already optimised for search engines and/or can be improved by the use of SEO plugins.
  • Speaking of blogging platforms, let’s not forget that Google owns Blogger/Blogspot. And judging by the good Google rankings achieved by so many Blogspot blogs, trying this service may not be a bad idea. In fact, there are webmasters who use Blogger as their main money making tool.

Besides being good for branding, relationship building and product promotion, blogs are also favoured by Google in several ways. If you know how valuable Google traffic is, you’d better start that much delayed blog right now. Your business will greatly benefit from this measure.
