How to Find Good Writers For Your Blog

Once upon a time there was an adage that was born. It was named “Content is King”. Many people grew to know of this adage and became quite familiar with it chanting its name all over the land. Ok, ok enough of the fairytale.

If content is king, then unique and up-to-date content is what you are looking for, period. The days where you could simply grab content from the umpteen article directories out there and post it to your site getting full credit for it, benefit wise, just as if it were your own are fading away. Sure, you can still get that content and add it to your site but now the benefits have devalued in a major way, both from a search engine’s point of view and your users’.

So what do you do when you know your content driven site needs quality unique content to power its traffic growing turbines? One thing you can do is begin writing your own content, but this provides your site with a limited amount of content as well as a limited perspective. Another thing you could do is to seek the help of good writers to supplement those empty days or hours where you are not able to contribute to your site’s user-satisfying content. Now, knowing that if you get writers to work with you on your site’s content will get it growing faster and stronger is the first step. The second step, which I think of as being the key ingredient is finding good writers.

How to Find Good Writers

Firstly, let me just say that a good writer for your purpose may not be a good writer for someone else’s. With that said here are a few options you have.

  1. Search for services that provide writers/bloggers for hire
  2. Post an add on sites like SitePoint http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/categories/looking-to-hire
  3. Put an ad on your site informing your users that you are hiring writers
  4. Ask your network of people if they know anyone that could wear that hat

and here are the options I choose to use:

Let’s say I am looking for someone to write for an SEO Blog. I’ll spend a few minutes googling around for blogs that are search engine optimization related. Eg. I will google “seo blog” to start. My preference is not to go straight for the blogs listed first but instead to go a few pages down maybe to page 5 and begin looking there. I then look for blogs that have the type of posts I am hoping to have on my blog. Once I find that then I will email the blogger and see if they would be interested in joining my efforts, paid ofcourse.

Another options I choose at times is to go to other more established blogs that provide the quality of content I aim to provide and see if any of their guest bloggers catches my eye. Once I find one I will then ask them if they would be interested in blogging for my blog as well.

In the second case scenario you my need to match, beat, or come close to the per post cost of the blog where you found the writer. The main benefit to these two methods is you get a solid idea of the quality of posts you can expect from the person and you dont have to sift through lots of applicants who do not meet your needs even though they may say they do.

Good Luck!
